Papa Nii provides Community Library for Mallam

Accra, Sept. 22, GNA - Mr Henry Harding, an actor in the Studio Comedy, "Taxi Driver", has collaborated with friends to provide the Mallam community in Accra with a 32 million-cedi community Library. The 20- capacity library christened, "Papacy And Friends Community Library", is stocked with storybooks and textbooks approved by the Ghana Education Service for basic and junior secondary schools.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at the commissioning ceremony, Mr Harding, popularly called "Papa Nii" or "The Papacy" said the project was his life-long dream to give back to the community, where he hails from, his widows mite.

" Mallam is a deprive area, which lack a lot of basic social amenities including a library for children who want to explore the world through reading," he noted.

Mr Harding who is noted on stage for his grandiose use of the English language said: "As a growing child I had the luxury of being forced to read three books a month and that contributed significantly to my present status".

He said the Library would afford children in the area whose parents could not afford books to use the facility free of charge. Mr Harding expressed appreciation to all those who played a role in helping him bring his long-cherished dream to reality.

Azumah Nelson, former World Boxing Council (WBC) Super Featherweight Champion, cut the tape and unveiled a plague in his honour.

Mr William Addo, a popular actor, affectionately called "Akpatse", and Volta Regional Director of the Centre for National Culture, tasked the children to patronize the facility to ensure that they were not left behind in the fast developing world.

He said the library had come at an opportune time when every body is complaining about the falling standards in the usage of the English language.

An appeal for funds for the purchase of more books for the Library yielded over 10 million cedis.
