Parental irresponsibility on the rise in Agona and Awutu districts

Agona Swedru (C/R) March 1 GNA- The neglect of parental responsibilities especially by fathers, topped the list of human right cases handled by the Agona and Awutu-Effutu-Senya District Offices of the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) last year. Mr Richmond Mensah, District Director of CHRAJ for Awutu- Effutu- Senya made this known to the Ghana News Agency at Agona Swedru on Monday.

Mr Mensah who is also the acting District Director of CHRAJ for Agona, said irresponsible behaviour of fathers towards their children constituted 40 per cent of cases recorded in the two districts. Cases of property inheritance disputes recorded was 20 per cent while men who refused to deny responsibility for pregnancies they are accused of was 10 per cent.

Mr Mensah said there were no cases on labour and Administrative injustice since investigations by the Commission had revealed that most abused workers refuse to report for fear of victimization. He said the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District received a total of 125 cases and settled 112 with 13 pending, while the Agona Office recorded 215 cases and was able to settle 176 with 39 pending.
