Nkoranza (B/A), Nov. 3, GNA - Madam Philippa Banson, Nkoranza District Director of Education, has asked parents to instill discipline in their children so that they could become responsible adults.

She advised parents to refrain from forcing their girls into early marriage.

Madam Banson was addressing the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting of the Nkoranza Girls model Junior High School (JHS) at Nkoranza.

The meeting sought to address the poor performance of the school in this year's Basic Education Certificate Examination since only eight out of the 37 candidates presented for the examination were successful. Madam Banson also called on parents to avoid spending lavishly on social ceremonies and clothing and invest in their children's education.

Mr. Richard Pastor, a PTA member, attributed indiscipline among school children to parental neglect. He asked parents to prevent their children for going to video centres and drinking spots.

The headmistress of the school, Madam Comfort Adjei appealed to parents to support teachers in addressing absenteeism, lateness and laziness among school children to improve upon their academic performance.
