Parents asked to invest more in kids' education

Accra, July 28, GNA - Justice Isaac Duose, an Appeal Court Judge, has advised parents not to spend all their time on wealth acquisition at the expense of their children's education.

"That should not be your aim because the best legacy you can leave for your child is education and not properties which could be destroyed and mismanaged within a twinkle of an eye", he told parents and pupils at a Speech and Prize-Giving event at 'Kiddicare' school in Accra on Saturday.

Justice Duose said parents had shifted priority off their wards' education to "chasing" money, which they spent on frivolities and also on funeral fanfare.

He tasked parents to spend enough "quality time" with their children so as to know and help develop the best talent of their children.

Justice Duose urged the pupils to learn hard through determination and perseverance to motivate their parents' support for them. Mrs Beatrice Dzomeku, Headmistress of the school, appealed to the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports to post teachers to the private schools to enhance teaching and learning in that sector. She noted that all schools, whether private or government, serve the same purpose of educating and transforming the Ghanaian child into a better citizen, hence her appeal.

She also appealed to the government to increase its logistic support to the private schools.
