Parents asked to put premium on education

Sawua (Ash), Sept 7, GNA - The Chief of Sawua, near Mfensi, in the Atwima-Nwabiagya

District, Nana Kwadwo Opoku, has appealed to parents to put high value on the education of their children.

He asked parents to avoid frivolous spending and invest in the education of their children.

Nana Opoku was speaking at a meeting to discuss the building of a school to serve nine cocoa growing communities, at Sawua. He expressed worry that about 250 children from the town walked about six kilometers daily to attend school at Asakraka. Nana Opoku said children were the most valuable assets of society and parents should do everything to ensure their development. He advised the people to bury their differences and support contribute to the development of the town. Nana Opoku appealed to the district assembly, Ghana Education Service, individuals and organizations to assist the community to build a classroom block.

Mr Thomas Ofori-Appiah, Chairman of the Project Implementation Committee of the town, said the school building project would be funded through special levies, voluntary contributions and fund-raising activities. He said the community had already manufactured 2,000 cement blocks and procured sand and stones to start work on the project.
