Agona Nsaba, March 26, GNA- Nana Ebo Wilson, an opinion leader at Nsaba in the Agona District of the Central region has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to refrain from forcing people under age to register in the on-going voters registration exercise.
He said the acts would not help the nation's democratic process and it can mar the beauty of democratic dispensation.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Agona Nsaba on Thursday to throw more light on the on-going exercise, Nana Wilson said the Electoral Commission (EC) told the nation the voters register was over bloated, so there was the need to compile a new one.
He said the compilation of the new one to remove ghost names and dead names as well as minors, cost the nation several billions of cedis to conduct the exercise.
Nana Wilson said some of the registration centres in the district and other districts were encountering problems of people under 18 to register, adding that, since there was no law requiring people to produce their birth certificates, there was no option than to allow them to register.
Nana Wilson therefore appealed to the party agents at various registration centres to be cautious and vigilant.
He asked the two major political parties the NPP and NDC supporters to exercise greater restraints to enable the EC to compile clean and credible voters register.
He urged eligible voters who have not registered their names to do so since there is no guarantee that the EC would extend the exercise. On the double registration, Nana Wilson urged Ghanaian eligible voters to refrain from the acts, which do not show patriotism and a good citizen who has the nation at heart.
