Pedestrians advised to obey traffic regulations ahead of Christmas

The Sunyani Municipal Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD), Superintendent Stella Sedame, has advised pedestrians to obey traffic regulations as the Christmas festivities approaches.

Speaking in an interview with Nana KAS on Suncity FM 97.1 Morning Drive in Sunyani, Superintendent Stella Sedame said achieving an incident free Christmas without any road accidents is a collateral responsibility.

“People should be careful when using the road. Car is a machine and anything can happen so you need not to fight space with Drivers. The breaks of a vehicle can fail at any point in time…so everybody should be alert. You can run for your life if you are alert. The possibility of dying after you have been hit by a car is great so people should be careful,” she said.

According to her, faded road signs and markings still remain a challenge in the municipality.

She also advised drivers not to violate traffic laws.

“Rest if you are tired. Drivers should insist of dropping passengers at the bus stops and not anywhere of the road. It is very bad to see some of them parking at pedestrian cross ways. Many people do not know the use of the pedestrian cross way…and because many drivers did no go to the driving school, they are making the job difficult,” the Sunyani Municipal Commander stated.

Superintendent Stella Sedame added that it is wrong for people to erect unauthorized roads signs in front of their properties.
