The Women’s Ministry of the Church of Pentecost, at the Trade Fair District in Accra, has donated assorted items and cash to the Social Welfare Department’s Remand Home at Osu-Ako Adjei in Accra.

The items, valued at GH¢3000.00 comprise bags of rice, gari and flour, assorted soft drinks, exercise books and other stationery, used clothes and foot wares, and toiletries. The cash donation was GH¢200.00.

The Reverend Samuel Yaw Asare, the Minister in-charge at the Trade Fair Assembly, who presented the items on behalf of the Women at the weekend, said Christ mandated Christians to always lend support to those who needed help.

“For I was hungry and ye gave me meat, I was thirsty and ye gave me drink; I was a stranger and ye took me in; naked and ye clothed me; I was sick and ye visited me and I was in prison and ye visited me,” he quoted Christ as obliging Christians to act.

Explaining, Rev Asare said, the followers of Christ must see the act of lending help to the deprived and the underprivileged as a responsibility imposed on them, for which reason a Church like Pentecost would always be ready to undertake such a task.

Addressing the inmates, Rev Asare advised them to trust God that they would come out as better reformed children.

He said they should be determined to receive training in their chosen vocations at the Home’s vocational school and graduate as responsible people ready to make meaningful contribution to the society and the nation as a whole.

“Be at peace with yourself and with zeal learn hard and acquire some skill before you leave here,” he stressed, and urged the authorities and the staff of the Home not to relent in their duties because God would reward their efforts.

The Women’s Ministry, led by the Pastor’s spouse, Madam Josephine Asare, prayed for God’s blessings, strength and guidance for the staff and the inmates.

The Head of the Home, Mrs Georgina Mensah, expressed gratitude to the benefactors, saying “We are so happy you have come to our aid because the government’s support for the Home is woefully inadequate.

“We don’t often get support here and that is why your notification of coming was received with great expectation. And now that you are here, we are very grateful”.

The Home houses persons at the Shelter for Abuse Unit, the Juvenile Girls Correctional Unit and the Boys Remand Home.
