People must invest in toilet facilities – DCE

Mr Sylvester Daddieh, Jomoro District Chief Executive, said it was time people invested in building toilet facilities to improve sanitation in the country.

He said the same way people invested in the transport sector, consideration must be given to establishing public places of convenience to complement the efforts of the assembly.

Mr Daddieh said this in Half Assini (Western Region) during public hearing of the Draft Jomoro District Medium-Term Development Plan.

The programme, organized by the District Assembly for Area Council members and Civil Society Organizations, forms part of a district-wide exercise in the 10 area councils sponsored by Friends of the Nation (FoN), a Non Governmental Organization.

Answering questions on the absence of toilet facilitates in Half-Assini Peace Town and Fante Landing Beach, which had the tendency to cause epidemic, he said people, perhaps, felt uncomfortable when being associated with such a venture, hence the lack of interest.

Mr Daddieh, therefore, commended Pastor Andrew Kangah of Sacred Action Church, Half- Assini, over an ultra-modern lavatory in the town to improve sanitation.

He, therefore, expressed the assembly’s preparedness to release land to whoever wanted to invest in that venture in the town and surrounding communities to complement the efforts of the assembly.

Mr Solomon Kusi Ampofoh, Project Officer, FoN, said the assembly should consult the people on their needs before embarking on any project as some projects had become white elephants because the beneficiaries were not consulted.
