Odumase-Krobo (E/R), Dec. 29, GNA - The Konor of Manya Krobo, Nene Sakite II, has appealed to the citizens of Manya Krobo to exercise restrain and remain calm over the attempted removal of Akuse from the Lower Manya District, in the Eastern Region, to the Dangbe West District in Greater Accra.

He said he had faith in the legal system of the country and that with the July 2008 judgement of the Supreme Court on the issue, in favour of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, nobody could take over Akuse. Nene Sakite was speaking at a press conference organized by the Manya Krobo Traditional Council, to state the position of the Council on the recent Legislative Instrument from the Ministry of Local Government. The Legislative Instrument enabled the Electoral Commission (EC), to demarcate the Akuse Area, which used to be part of the Manya Krobo District Assembly, as part of the Dangbe West District Assembly.

He said the Traditional Council has filed a writ at the court and had been granted an interim injunction to restrain the EC from holding any District Assembly Elections within the Akuse area until the determination o= f the case, which had been fixed for hearing on January 12, 2011 at the Supreme Court. Nene Sakite said the Traditional Council has also decided to advice th= e people within the Akuse area, not to take part in the District Assembly Elections scheduled for Wednesday, December 29, 2010. He said the people of Manya Krobo have been extremely provoked and advised government or those behind the removal of Akuse to Dangbe West District, not to take the Manya Krobos for granted. Nene Sakite said the people of Manya Krobo would always defend the decision of the Supreme Court of July 2008, which said that Akuse belongs t= o the people of Manya Krobo.

He said the people of Manya Krobo would like to refer the case to the government for the 93last truth" on the status of Akuse. Manye Marku I, Queen mother of Kpong, wondered whether there were no people in government or in Parliament, who were abreast with the decisions of the Supreme Court on Akuse or any history about Akuse, to truthfully advice on the pronouncement on Akuse.

The senior Linguist to Nene Sakite, Okyeame George Boatey said when Fanteakwa, Asuogyaman and Yilo Krobo District Assemblies were being created= , parts of Manya Krobo area, were slashed off to form those districts. He said, despite all those sacrifices and the court's decision on Akuse, 93there seemed to be some people more powerful than the government or the laws of the country, who are twisting facts the way they wanted them to be". If the Electoral Commission decides to go ahead with the District Assembly elections at Akuse, on December 29, then elections would be organized in six electoral areas in the Akuse area, and this would reduce the number of the Lower Manya District Assembly from 31 to 25.
