TOM (B/A), Jan 29, GNA - Nana Takyi Baffoe, Odikro of Tom (rpt Tom), a farming community in the Nkoranza District in Brong Ahafo, has called on the District Assembly to support the District Chief Executive, so he could serve the district to the expectation of the people. Nana Baffoe was speaking at a meeting organised by the chief and elders of the town to welcome the DCE, who was on his first visit to the community, since he assumed office.
Nana Baffoe deplored the negative practice by some Assembly Members to rebel against DCEs and MCEs to the extent of calling for their removal from office, saying, the practice had adverse effect on development agenda of the assemblies.
He advised Assembly Members to bury their political differences and forge ahead in unity, so they could initiate development projects to help the people to improve their living conditions.
The Odikro also called on the leadership of the New Patriotic Party in Nkoranza to promote love, unity and cooperation among Members of Parliament, the DCE and traditional authorities.
He advised the DCE to respect the views of all the people and make use of the relevant ones in the general interest of the district. Mr Adjei Benson, Assembly Member for Tom called on the Assembly to support the on-going teachers' accommodation project initiated by the people.
He appealed to the Department of Feeder Roads to rehabilitate the road linking the town to Nkoranza to enable farmers to convey their farm produce to marketing centres.
Mr James Kwabena Appiah-Awuah thanked Nana Baffoe for the advice and invited the people to share ideas with him to accelerate the development of the district.
The DCE urged the people not to let partisan politics to override the interest of the district, stressing that such attitude would create factions among them and adversely affect the development of the district.
Mr Appiah-Awuah advised the people to patronize the District Health Insurance Scheme and advised the unemployed youth to undertake farming activities to enable them to obtain credit facilities. "Parents should take advantage of the Government's capitation grant and enrol their children in schools", he said.
