Mampong (Ash), Dec 2, GNA-The Asante-Mampong zonal branch of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church on Saturday presented two bales of used clothes, toys, food and other items worth about seven million cedis to the Mampong Babies Home.
The used-clothes and toys, valued at four million cedis, were donated by Mrs D. Lauder-Bell of the Manchester SDA Church in England.
The food and other items, worth three million cedis, which included fruits, vegetables, cooking oil, rice, sugar, assorted soap, loaves of bread and herbal medicine, were contributions from members of the Mampong zonal branch of the Church.
Pastor James Amoah, Sabbath School and Personal Ministry Director of the Central Ghana Conference of the SDA Church, presented the items to the Home on behalf of Mrs Lauder-Bell and the Mampong zonal branch.
He said Mrs Lauder-Bell's gesture was in response to an appeal made in England on behalf of the Home by Pastor Michael Simpson of the Manchester SDA Church, who visited the Babies Home in 2001, while in the country.
Pastor Amoah commended Mrs Lauder-Bell for her sensitivity to the Home and appealed to organisations, individuals and philanthropists to emulate her and contribute towards the upkeep of the orphans.
He announced that another two bales of used clothes and toys from the same source were ready for distribution to some selected needy children's home in the rural communities.
Receiving the items, Madam Grace Lamptey, Superintendent in-charge of the Home, expressed appreciation for the donation and said they will help motivate others to contribute towards the needy.
She assured the donors that the items would be used for the benefit of the orphans.
