Plan Ghana assists Akotsi with seven projects

Gomoa-Akotsi (C/R), Oct.28, GNA-Plan Ghana (PG), a Non-Governmental Organization has within the past eight years provided the people of Gomoa-Akotsi in the Central Region, a number of development projects valued over three billion cedis to improve the lot of people in the town.

They included, a pre-school complex building, supply of free school uniforms to pupils of basic schools in the town, a public bathhouse, toilet and 65 household KVIP toilet facilities for individuals in the community.

The rest are, a library block fitted with books, a ten-seater KVIP attached with a 200-gallon capacity water tank to ensure that children who used the toilet house washed their hands after attending nature's call, and free supply of treated mosquito nets to nursing mothers to protect their babies against malaria. Besides, Plan Ghana has trained a number of Community Development Committees, including health, education, traditional birth attendants, as well as "daddies and mammies clubs," and offered scholarships to several brilliant but needy children in the community to Senior Secondary Schools.

The Akwamuhene of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional Araea and Chief of Gomoa-Akotsi, Nana Osafo Ninsin XVIII, announced these at the inauguration of the library block and the new KVIP place of convenience for the Akotsi Primary and Junior Secondary Schools at Akotsi on Friday. On behalf of the chiefs and people of the Town, Nana Ninsin extended his deepest appreciation to both external and internal directors of the organization, as well past and current workers of the Awutu-Bawjiase Programme Area of Plan Ghana for their immense contributions towards the realization of their socio-economic objectives.

Nana Ninsin also extended special gratitude to directors of "Mary Chocolate Factory" in Japan which funded the construction of the new library block, the 10-seater KVIP, project and provided the library books through Plan Ghana.

Nana Annan Anthony I, Nkosouhene of the town appealed to teachers in the town to step up their teaching activities to halt the falling educational standard in the area.

Nana Annan Anthony pledged to provide the Junior Secondary School in the community with computers to keep the children abreast with modern technology.

Mr. Kojo Mbir, Programme Support Manager of Plan Ghana, appealed to parents in rural communities to continue to muster the necessary courage and commitment to enable them to offer their children the best academic, technical and vocational training that would make them dependable and useful citizens in future.

Mr. Mbir assured the nation that Plan Ghana's master plan for the transformation of the lives of children still holds good and would continue to give of its best towards the full realization of goals and aspirations of children in areas where its operates. Mr. Mbir and Mrs Amelia Allan, Bawjiase Programme Area Manager of Plan Ghana, praised the chiefs and people of Gomoa-Akotsi for their unyielding communal spirit, which culminated in the speedy implementation of all assisted development projects in the town and hoped they would maintain it.
