Plan Ghana gives towards GJA Awards

Plan Ghana, a child centred non-governmental organisation and seven other organisations have donated cash and in kind towards the 19th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards.

Speaking during the presentation of a cheque for GH?5000 towards the event, Mr Prem Shukla, Country Manager of Plan Ghana said the donation is towards the GJA Human Rights award with special focus on Child Rights to encourage journalists to pay much attention on issues of children.

He said child rights are human rights, which should be respected by all and sundry.

The Country Manager commended journalists for playing pivotal roles in the nation’s socio-economic development.

The other organisations include the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, which for the first time gave out a colour television set, a laptop, modem with one year internet service and cheque for GH?2,000 for the best journalist in decentralisation and local governance.

The rest are Kosmos Energy Ghana, Samara Pharmacy, Ghana Academy of Arts and Science, City Lights and Stanbic Bank.

Mr Francis Kwaidoo, General Manager/Operations of Miracle Wave International Limited promised to entertain the guests at the event at no cost as part of its support for the Awards.

Receiving the various donations, Dr Affail Monney, GJA President expressed gratitude to corporate Ghana for the support towards the event.

The event which is on the theme: “Using development journalism to discern and defend the national interest,” would be under the Chairmanship of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, former Lagos State Governor, Otumfuo Osei-Tutu II, Asantehene as the Special Guest Speaker and President John Dramanni Mahama as the Guest of Honour.
