Ploy to smear Lawyer Nana Oppong backfires

Dr Nana Oppong Muslim, the lead counsel of Due Diligence Law Firm, who has been at the receiving end of one woman, Eunice Boateng’s unmitigated bile has been handed a clean sheet by an Accra High Court.

His accuser also been thrown to jail since December 4, 2014, by Her Worship Ms. Sedina Agbemava, for the offences of possession of forged documents and deceit of a public officer contrary to sections 166 and 251, respectively of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

She was sentenced to twenty-four months In Hard Labour ( I.H.L)for count 1,that is, possession of forged documents, contrary to section 166 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 9Act 29) and twelve (12) months I.H.L for count 2- deceit of a public officer. Both sentences were to run concurrently, beginning 14 November, 2014.

Since her incarceration, her present Counsel, Kissi Agyebeng has been in-and- out of the Appeal Court, seeking to quash the decision of an earlier court, Circuit Court, but to no avail.

The now jailbirds case against the astute lawyer, which was also reported at the General Legal Council was that the Dr. Oppong had coerced her ward, one Georina Donkor, whom she described then as a minor, into agreeing to withdraw a defilement charge against a business man (name withheld).

It was this charge that the court found to be frivolous and without merit, as the accuser could not prove that indeed the lawyer acted contrary to the ethic of his profession.

“I thank the Almighty this case has finally come to an end and the court in its wisdom has seen that our man didn't do anything untoward. In any case he rather wanted the best for the girl but her guardian, with her constant harassment didn't make the good intention for the girl come to fruition”, one of the Lawyer’s allies told our reporter.

Contrary to allegations against him in publications by the Crusading Guide newspaper, the High Court at Accra found that Dr Nana oppong had acted professionally, competently and properly throughout as the lawyer for the client who was not a minor at all material times.

So the High Court completely dismissed a suit brought against Dr Nana Oppong.

The lawyer has been vindicated and all the attempt at hurting his reputation has backfired. Justice at last has been done.
