Koforidua, Jan. 13, GNA - The Eastern Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) George Anko-Bil, has allayed fears of violence in some parts of the region, assuring that policemen were firmly in control of affairs.

He has therefore advised residents to put politics behind them and go about their normal day duties by keeping the peace. Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday about the security situation in the region, DCOP Anko-Bil said all was calm, and that some initial reports about shooting incidents in some parts of the region turned out to be a hoax, since those making the claims could not substantiate the allegations. Nonetheless, he said the police were firmly on the ground and had increased patrols to ensure that individuals fomenting any kind of trouble were arrested before their actions spiralled out of control. He said was also in constant touch with leaders of political entities for them to use their influence on their followers to maintain the peace.

DCOP Anko-Bil reiterated the need for Ghanaians to live in unity and refrain from actions that are likely to disturb the peace and cause mayhem to lives and property. 13 Jan. 09
