The Police Hospital in Accra is warning that it may no longer be able to accept accident and emergency cases referred to the center.

The Hospital says it is struggling to contain the huge number of accident cases referred to it daily.

A team from Starr News that visited the hospital on Monday spotted congested wards and overworked personnel.

Authorities at the hospital are blaming the situation on the insatiable desire of some public health facilities in Accra to refer accident cases to the hospital.

In an exclusive interview with Starr News’ Ibrahim Alhassan, the Medical Director of the hospital, DCOP Dr. Seidu Mohamadu Zakariah said if the situation is not managed properly, the lives of patients will soon be in danger.

“Clearly, the situation is not sustainable, the facilities must recognise the ministry of health’s directive that in accident cases, within the first 48 hours; you use the resources at your disposal to treat the patient before you consider other options.

“And the fact is, somebody has to pay for the challenges we are being confronted with, otherwise maintaining our leaking roofs, structures, buying medical equipment and drugs will not be sustainable,” he explained.
