Kumasi, Jan 3, GNA - Police Inspector Paul Mantey-Boateng, one of the two policemen who were shot by a suspect they attempted to arrest at Dominase near Asante-Bekwai on Sunday, December 28, 2003, has died from gun shot wounds.

Inspector Mantey-Boateng, aged 32 and stationed at Anwiankwanta, died on Friday, January 2 at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.

He was a first-year planning student at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and left behind a wife and a child.

Police Inspector Yusif Mohammed Tanko, in-charge of Ashanti Region Police Public Relations Unit, who disclosed this to the press in Kumasi on Saturday, said, however, that the second police officer, Inspector Peter Insaidoo, stationed at Senfi was responding to treatment. Kofi Agyeman, the suspect, was alleged to have snatched the AK 47 rifle Inspector Insaidoo was holding when they attempted arresting him at Dominase for assault and fired at them.

Meanwhile, Inspector Tanko has appealed to the public to volunteer information that would lead to the arrest of Agyeman.
