Nkoranza (B/A), Nov. 23, GNA - The Police at Nkoranza are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Michael Adu Obiri-Berempong, aged 60, who was found hanging in the bathroom of his rented house at Donkro-Nkwanta a farming community near Nkoranza last Monday.

Mr. Benjamin Wiafe-Kwabeng, Superintendent of Police in-charge of the Nkoranza Police Station told the Ghana News Agency at Nkoranza on Friday that the late Obiri-Berempong was the proprietor of "It is the Lord International School", a private school at Donkro-Nkwanta.


Mr. Wiafe-Kwabeng quoted the wife of the deceased Madam Mary Yaa Anane as saying that her husband had before his death complained of ill health for some days and even reported to he Nkoranza Saint Theresa's Hospital for treatment. Supt. Wiafe-Kwabeng said, the wife said a day before the incident, the husband said he was feeling hot late in the evening and therefore decided to rest on the veranda outside their room.


The woman said when she woke up at dawn on that day she realized that the husband was not sleeping on the veranda.


She said she reported to the other people in the neighbourhood and they joined her to look for him in the compound.

In the course of the search they realized that the door of the bathroom had been locked.


According to Madam Anane they forced the door open and to their surprise Mr. Obiri-Berempong was found hanging dead on one of the rafters of the roofing.


His corpse had since been deposited at the Techiman Holy Family Hospital mortuary pending autopsy and burial at his hometown, Kwahu-Obomeng in the Eastern Region.


Mr. Wiafe-Kwabeng said the police did not suspect any foul play in the man's death.
