Ho, July 26, GNA- Onehundred and forty-nine Police recruits on Friday passed out after eight months training at the Police Training School at Ho. They were taken through criminal law and procedures, law of evidence, criminal investigations, weapons handling, liberal subjects and drills. In an address, the Volta Regional Police Commander, Mr Kofi Duku Arthur urged the recruits to translate the lessons learnt into practical policing.

He reminded them of the Police Administration's warning to personnel of the Service to operate within the law. " It is morally and ethically outrageous for Police officers to observe the law more in its breach than compliance", he said. Mr Arthur said it is wrong for policemen to think that, "it lies within their absolute discretion to decide how much freedom individual citizens must enjoy in any given situation".

He warned that the democratic system of government operating in the country has no place for "whimsical, arbitrary and capricious use of power". The Regional Commander reminded the recruits to keep in mind the Service's motto of "Service with Integrity" which they must uphold at all times.

"The nation needs a new crop of loyal, dedicated and responsible policemen and those of you passing out should stand out and be counted as the nucleus of good policemen". The baton of honour went to General Recruit Eric Kwame Appiah for being the overall best recruit while Cornelius Nkah and Kofi Nsiah were honoured for best conduct and best marksman respectively.
