Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Kofi Boakye, the Ashanti Regional Commander, says adequate security measures have been put in place to stem crime during the Christmas season.

He said the police would ensure strong presence and visibility at various points including the Kumasi Central Business District, the Roman Hill, Kejetia and the Central Market, which have high attraction for criminals.

DCOP Boakye told journalists in Kumasi that although crime in the region generally was on a downward trend, the police would not be complacent as to some people crime was a trade and would always come up with new strategies to outwit their victims and the police.

He said the police were determined to work hard and with passion to drastically reduce crime to allow the law abiding to go about their business in peace and without fear.

He said the police had acquired more motorbikes to enable them to effectively patrol all areas, adding that District and Divisional Police Commanders, have also been asked to release their vehicles for highway patrol.

The Regional Commander appealed to the public to continue to provide them with useful leads to track down and arrest miscreants.
