Police avert clashes at Avenor

There would have been bloodshed at Avenor, a suburb of Accra, yesterday morning if not for the timely intervention of the police who prevented a confrontation that ensued between articulated and spare parts dealers and workers of a private developer.

Two persons, however, sustained multiple injuries in the process of the confrontation.

But when things seemed to have died down, it was gathered that there was a reprisal later in the evening, forcing the few police officers to call for reinforcement.

Deputy Superintendent of Police in charge of the Community Unit of the Ghana Police Service, Kwasi Ofori, and his men were quickly deployed to the area.

The fight was as a result of claims by two factions over a parcel of land said to be a state property.

“Currently, there is an interlocutory injunction stopping the two factions from developing the land,” a resident of the area said.

One of the factions was alleged to have poured petrol over the land which has a mosque and a number of articulated vehicles sitting on it.

No arrest was made as at press time yesterday.
