Sogakope (V/R), Nov. 14, GNA - Superintendent Martin Amofa, South Tongu Divisional Police Commander, has called for the demolition of a newly constructed roundabout at Sogakope to reduce the rate of accident at the spot. Supt. Amofa made the call during the maiden South Tongu District Road Safety Committee meeting to discuss ways to minimise road accidents in the area. He said, so far 15 accident cases were recorded at the place resulting in fatalities. The roundabout is at the Adidome-Junction on the Sogakope-Aflao Highway, which is about 500 metres away from the Sogakope Police Barrier. The roundabout is said to be too large and that drivers do not exercise restraint when they reach that stretch of the road and thereby pose danger to pedestrians. Supt. Amofa said road signs in the area were not enough and that drivers, especially those who operated outside the Sogakope township, often failed to respect traffic regulations, resulting in a number of road accidents. He said if total demolition was not appropriate, then traffic lights including speed ramps should be provided to regulate the speed of vehicles and forestall the accidents. He called on drivers to be mindful of road signs when driving through the area.
