The police in the Asante-Akim South District have vowed to act decisively to bring down the growing addiction of the youth to marijuana.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Sandow Latebu, the District Commander, said he found it disturbing the rate at which young people in the area were becoming hooked to drugs and alcohol.

The police, he said, were determined to do everything to restore some level of sanity and prevent young people from ruining their lives when inaugurating a 27-member Neighbourhood Watch Committee at Juaso.

This is part of the effort at helping to address incessant thefts in the community.

DSP Latebu appealed to members of the committee to do more to assist the police to flush out the miscreants to enable the law-abiding to live in peace and urged them to conduct themselves well to win the confidence and cooperation of the people.

Mr. De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), told them not to usurp the powers of police and must operate strictly within the confines of the law.
