Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Peter Toobu on Monday admonished the security agencies not to commit themselves to any political agenda, and rather serve the country diligently during the upcoming general election.
“Remember that your uniform covers every selfish interest of yours and rather promotes national interest which will consolidate the peace the country is enjoying,” he added.
ASP Toobu gave the warning as a Resource Person at the opening of a three-day Regional Capacity Building workshop for the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Prisons Service and Customs Division of Ghana Revenue Authority in Takoradi in the Western Region.
The workshop sponsored by the United Kingdom Aid and Executive Intelligence is aimed at strengthening the law enforcement agencies on their role in the 2012 general election. The participants would be taken through subjects areas such as, “Elections and Peace building”, “Intelligence Gathering” and “Civic Rights”.
ASP Toobu entreated the service personnel men and women to work hard particularly during the electioneering to entrench the country’s democratic credentials.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Ransford Ninson, Regional Police Commander said the area has 435 flash points out of the 2,439 polling stations with 145 of them being in inaccessible, hence plans to beef up security in those areas on December 7.
Mr. Alexander Abankwa, Leader of the Executive Intelligence Africa’s said despite the country’s success in previous elections, any act of omission or commission could cause Ghana and therefore entreated the security agencies to be up to the task.
