Koforidua, Oct. 09, GNA – The Eastern Regional Police Command has embarked on a special operation on the Apedwa – Kumasi highway to help curb the increasing road accidents in the area.

The Operation which was led jointly by Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Kwabena Gyamera Yeboah, Eastern Regional Police Commander, and Superintendent James Sarfo Peprah the Regional MTTU Commander, found 14 drivers culpable for various road traffic offences.

The drivers were cautioned and ordered to rectify the wrongs for which they were arrested within 24 hours or face the full rigors of the law.

While some drivers whose tyres were worn out were made to change them before continuing their journey, others were detained for driving with fake licenses, use of tainted glasses, exceeding driving speed limits and using inappropriate driving licenses.

The officers also interacted with the passengers and pedestrians and urged them to report any act of dangerous driving to the nearest police station.

Superintendent Peprah noted with displeasure that most of the drivers were using photocopied and laminated licenses whiles driving and that was an offence under section 131 of the Road Traffic Act.

He urged the passengers to show interest in the conduct of the driver during the journey as their lives were in his care.

He urged them to speak up and politely ask the drivers to slow down when they are over speeding, speaking on phones or indulging in a reckless overtaking
