Police personnel in UE/R attend workshop on Juvenile Justice

Bolgatanga, Nov 12, GNA - Forty Police personnel in the Upper East have attended a three-day training workshop on Juvenile Justice and Domestic Violence in Bolgatanga.

The workshop is aimed, among others, at equipping the police at handling child offenders and the constitution with regard to Domestic Violence and to come out with a plan of action on the effective handling of juvenile at the police facilities.

It is being organised by Africa Women Lawyers Association (AWLA) and sponsored by the United Nations International Children;s Fund (UNICEF).

Speaking at the workshop, the Executive Director of AWLA, Ms Edua Kumah said the police should endeavour to collect data and keep records of domestic violence reported at the stations.

She said they should study the document on juvenile justice and domestic violence very well to enable them to reach out to the people in their area of operation, so as to eradicate or minimise the practice in the country.

Ms Babara Sakyi also of AWLA, in her presentation said violence against women and children impedes peace and development and a stable society.
