Police prosecutes 154 drivers in Tarkwa

The Tarkwa Nsueam Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) of the Ghana Police Service has within the second quarter of this year prosecuted 154 drivers for reckless driving and other road offenses.

Out of the total, 53 were convicted and fined a total sum of GH?12,960.00 while 6 cases are still pending trial.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, the divisional Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) commander for the Municipality, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Isaac Adasti, said out of 164 cases recorded, 102 are under investigation.

He commended the MTTU officials for working extra hard to ensure sanity and decency on the road.

DSP Adatsi said most accidents that occur on the road are preventable and called on drivers to refrain from wrongful over taking and over speeding to promote road safety in the country.

He appealed to drivers in the Municipality to be vigilant as the rains have set in and help reduce the spate of road accidents.**
