Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Simon Yao Afeku, Deputy Ashanti Regional Commander, says robust tackling of driver indiscipline would be implemented to make the roads safe.
He said the police would do everything possible to stop the recklessness, impunity and careless disregard for road traffic regulations.
ACP Afeku who was speaking at a road safety management meeting held in Kumasi, noted that most road crashes could be prevented, but for the poor judgment and sheer negligence of motorists.
He appealed to the public to co-operate, support and show good understanding to the police, to help restore sanity on the roads.
He said it is important for stakeholders to work together with a sense of urgency to assure travellers of their safety.
Mr Thomas Bismark Boakye, Regional Manager of the National Road Safety Commission said the area saw a significant reduction in road crashes during the third quarter of the year.
The region recorded 334 cases compared with the second quarter’s total of 421 - showing a decline of 20.6 per cent.
The number of deaths also dropped from 61 to 43 during the period under review.
Mr Boakye expressed the need for the public to wear seat belts and cautioned drivers to avoid speeding, drink driving and overloading of vehicles.
