Monday, December 18 was scheduled for court involving some alleged young ladies suspected to be operating as commercial sex workers at Kpaguri a suburb of Wa in the Upper West Region.
But the police has suspended prosecution on Health grounds as a result of an attack on the defendants by the same residents who reported the matter to the police.
The ladies on Saturday evening were chased out of their home by the youth of the area with severe assault and also burning all their belongings in the process.
The attack has been characterized as a refusal by the alleged prostitutes to relocate their activities from Kpaguri where the incident happened.
One out of 5 who are currently responding to treatment was discharged of Sunday evening while the remaining 4 are still at the facility.
In an interaction with the victims by a team from the Upper West Regional Criminal Investigation Department CID the ladies said it is the owner of the alleged brothel who is taking care of their bills at the hospital because they could not escape with anything of their own, our correspondent said.
Various parts of their body have been severely injured as a result of the attack.
According to the Upper West Regional crime Officer Superintendent Alhaji Fuseni Awinaba, "it is only fear that with their condition at the hospital, we suspend the court hearing until they recover and discharge".
He said the police is making efforts to arrest the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to book.
Adding that, as the girls are in court they too will also be in court for their actions.
