Polytechnics urged to liaise with employers

Alhaji Limuna Mohammed Muniru, Upper East Regional Minister, has called on Polytechnics to liaise with all stakeholders and policy makers to develop a curricular that would help produce graduates for the needed sectors of the economy.

He urged Polytechnics to have a continuous dialogue with political leaders and technocrats in the country to fashion out programmes and policies for an effective transformation of the economy.

This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Wedam, the acting Public Relations officer of the Upper East Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) when the Minister called on the Rector and staff of the Bolgatanga Polytechnic at Sumbrungu.

Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru also called on citizens of the area to come out with ideas to help solve the accommodation requirements for officials on transfer to institutions in the region.

He pledged to collaborate with the Polytechnic, and donated some textbooks on Public Sector Economics and Financing to the Institution.

Dr Mba Atinga, the Rector of Bolgatanga Polytechnic, said the Polytechnic comprised of three main schools running 10 programmes with a student population of 1,600, and this included students from Burkina Faso.

He appealed to government for assistance in constructing lecture theatres, an ICT laboratory and an auditorium to accommodate the growing number of applicants each year.

Madam Faustina Gyabaah, a Civil Engineering Lecturer at the school, during an open forum, said the absence of requisite training equipment hampered practical lessons and hands-on training for students.

She appealed to government, Non Governmental Organisations and all stakeholders to come to the aid of the Polytechnic by providing the necessary tools and equipment needed by the institution.
