Population growth of W/R has reduced

The population growth rate of the Western Region reduced by 3.2% in 2000 to 1.8% in 2010, according to the final results of the 2010 Population and Housing Census.

Nana Opoku, Western Regional Statistician, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview at Sekondi on Thursday that, the Western Region and the Brong-Ahafo Region are the only regions with more males than females.

Nana Opoku said in the 2010 census, the Western Region had a population 2,376,021 made up of 1,187,774 males and 1,188,247 females while the Brong Ahafo's population of 2,310,983 included 1,165,712 females.

He said the Western Region is the fifth most populous region after the Northern Region which has a population of 2,479,461.

The Ashanti Region, the most populous region, has a population of 4,780,380 followed by the Greater Accra Region with a population of 4,010,054. Eastern Region, third, has a population of 2,633,154 while the Upper West Region, the least populated region, has a population of 702,110 including 360,928 females.**
