Apam (C/R), Jan. 24, GNA- The two Traditional Councils in the Gomoa District of the Central Region, on Tuesday agreed that Gomoa Potsin should be made the capital of the yet to be created Gomoa East District. This was contained in a resolution signed by the two Presidents of the Traditional Councils, Nana Obirifo Ahunako Ahor Ankobea II, Paramount Chief of Gomoa Akyempim and Okatakyi Nyanful Krampa X, Paramount Chief of Gomoa Ajumako and divisional chiefs of the area, at Apam in the District.

Ms. Joyce Aidoo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Fred Oscar Abban, the Presiding Member for the District Assembly, Mr Joe Hackman, Member of Parliament (MP) for Gomoa West and Mr Richard Sam Quarm, MP for Gomoa East, also signed the agreement.

The location of capitals for; Gomoa West and Gomoa East, to be created out of the Gomoa District, has delayed the implementation of the decision.

Ms Aidoo said the signing of the resolution was " most memorable" in the history of Gomoa as it will ensure more development for the area. Obirifo Ahunako Ankobea appealed to the government to announce the creation of the new districts without delay now that the problem over the location of capitals has been solved.

Okatakyie Krampah gave the assurance that the unity and peace that existed between the two traditional areas would be sustained even if the government created the new districts.

The government was considering a request from the chiefs of the Gomoa district, calling for the separation of the district, which is currently the largest in the Central Region with a population of over 200,000 people, into two separate administrative entities.
