Poverty Alleviation Fund in West Mamprusi

Walewale, (NR), Aug 27, GNA - The national Poverty Alleviation Fund, has disbursed 336.7 million cedis to 669 beneficiaries in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region, this year.

The beneficiaries, who were organised into 73 groups from 11 area councils, received their share through the West Mamprusi Community Bank, at Walewale, the District capital.

Mr Yakubu Tanko, the Bank Manager, announced this, during the second general meeting of the District Assembly at Walewale. Mr Tanko expressed the need for the beneficiaries to pay back the loan to widen the network.

He said the Bank had recovered 55.8 million cedis from five previous groups.

Mr Amadu Abdul-Karim, the District Chief Executive (DCE), said the District put up a six-classroom block and other auxiliary facilities at the cost of 150 million cedis through the Heavily Indebted and Poor Countries initiative fund.

Mr Abdul-Karim said the Assembly was targeting total revenue of 2.7 billion cedis this year.

He said the Assembly had already collected 151 million cedis and called on the District Revenue Task Force to intensify their efforts to exceed the target.

He said the District had received 945 million cedis out of the budgeted 4.5 billion cedis as its share of the District Assemblies' Common Fund for this year.

The money was disbursed on a children's ward at the Walewale Hospital, a Guesthouse, a

10-seater- KVIP toilet facility each at Nasia and Bokuduri, a staff bungalow and streetlights.

Mr Sulemana Nabila, the Presiding Member of the Assembly, appealed to members to work collectively to push the developmental agenda forward to maintain the confidence of the people.
