Ho, Jan. 17, GNA- The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will soon provide 11,000 power consumers in the Ho Municipality using credit meters with pre-paid meters.

Initially 6,000 consumers in the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Flats and its environs and other residential areas in the Municipality, will be provided with the facility and the project would be extended to other areas.

Mr Mathew Biney, Divisional Manager, in charge of Sales and Marketing at the Volta Regional ECG Office, said this at a sensitization meeting involving ECG officials and clients within the SSNIT Flats and its environs on Tuesday.

He said the ECG's 10 years experience in administering the pre-paid metering system in Accra and other parts of the country was enough experience to make the exercise in Ho successful. Mr Biney said Customer Service Centers of the company will be strategically located to make it easier for the purchase of power and resolution of technical problems.

He said in future shopping centers and fuel retail stations will be made to sale pre-paid power cards to consumers.

He said the ECG has adopted measures to transfer credits under the old system to the new system and recoup debts incurred from the old system where necessary.

In an open forum, consumers expressed fear that staff of the ECG might frustrate the exercise with unnecessary delays in attending to clients.
