Prempeh College acts on safety after tragic death of student

Prempeh College, an all-boys senior high school (SHS) in Kumasi, has taken steps to improve safety after a final-year business student, Samuel Asare-Bediako fell to his death from the second floor of a dormitory block.

Another student, Tabiri Kofi Boateng, who fell together with the deceased, suffered multiple fractures and he is reported to be responding to treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), the nation’s second largest referral facility.

The tragic incident happened on last Friday at about 1600 hours.

Mr. Anthony Osei-Poku, Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), that it would act immediately to raise the railing at the balcony of the block to prevent any future such accident.

They would do everything to make sure that the safety of the students was not compromised.

The police at Suntreso have already launched investigations to establish the full facts of the heart-breaking accident.

Meanwhile, the family of the deceased, is making preparations to bury the deceased student.

According to a family source an autopsy to determine the actual cause of death is expected to be done today (Tuesday) at KATH to pave way for his burial at Hwereso, in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipality on Saturday.

The source added that the family was in constant touch with the school authorities – kept them adequately informed of every arrangement.
