Sunyani, July 11, GNA - Mr. Yaw Adjei-Duffour, Deputy Brong Ahafo Regional Minister has charged choral groups to come out with compositions that have the tendency to unite politicians as the 2004 elections draw closer.
"There is the need, more than ever for you to come out with lyrics which shun all forms of vituperations and abusive language that could mar the elections," he said.
Mr. Adjei-Duffour was made the call in a speech read on his behalf at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Brong Ahafo Presbyterian Church Choirs' Union in Sunyani.
He noted that Ghanaians have recently developed a taste for gospel music because of their messages and called for measures to consolidate this trend to counteract profane lyrics, which are currently on the airwaves.
The Deputy Regional Minister urged choristers to examine their lives critically to make sure that they do not deviate from the life expected of Christians saying, "it will be very sad that after many years of singing some of you will miss the ultimate crown promised by our Lord Jesus Christ".
Mr. Adjei-Duffour called on religious leaders to use the pulpit to educate the Ghanaian populace about the on-going registration for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to make it successful.
He stated that the NHIS is a sure recipe for the solution of problems associated with the health sector and advised all Ghanaians to ensure that they register to be part of it.
Rev. Dr. Kwame Amoah-Kuma, Brong Ahafo Presbytery Chairperson of the Presbyterian Church commended the Union for the role it had played over the years to uplift singing in the Church.
He however, called on the union to record some of its soul-inspiring songs on cassette to earn money for its activities.
Mr. Joseph Mensah-Diawuo, President of the Union asked members to let their lives reflect the lyrics of the songs they sing.
He said the union would embark on membership drive to increase its 1,300 members and 80 branches.
