President Kufuor inaugurates youth Training Centre

Nalerigu (N/R), Nov. 24, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Tuesday inaugurated the first phase of the Youth Leadership Training Centre at Nalerigu in the East Gonja District.

The first phase completed at the estimated cost of about one billion cedis is made up of classrooms for the 120 students, who undertake courses in general agriculture, carpentry and joinery, building and construction, dress making and electrical wiring.

The work on the second phase would comprise an administrative block and staff bungalows. The Centre currently has six tutors. President Kufuor, who is on a five-day tour of the Northern Region, was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, said bungalows for staff of the Centre would be provided next year.

He said Gambaga had long been associated with education and the Government would endeavour to establish a teacher training college there.

President Kufuor said a more capable and competent person would be appointed to the newly created Bunprugu-Yunyoo District to work efficiently and effectively.

Na Bohagu Mahami Abdulai Sheriga, Paramount Chief of the Mamprugu Traditional Area, commended the Government for the establishment of the Centre that would provide an opportunity for the youth to train and acquire employable skills to reduce their migration to the Southern part of the country.

He appealed for the establishment of a teacher training college in the area because most of the schools there did not have the full complement of teachers.

President Kufuor addressed another durbar of the chiefs and people of the West Mamprusi District at Walewale.

Na Professor John Nabila, Paramount chief of the Kpasenkpe Traditional Area, appealed to the Government to construct a bridge over the White Volta to link the District Capital to the "Overseas" area of Yagba and Kubori and rehabilitate the Wulugu - Kpasenkpe road.

Na Prof. Nabila appealed to politicians to conduct their electioneering campaigns devoid of insults and remarks that could disturb the peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the country. "Let us collectively ensure an incidence-free elections in December" he said.
