President John Dramani Mahama has appealed to Chief Imams and Moslems in the country to pray for peace towards the 2012 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
The Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo made the appeal on behalf of the President when he presented 50 bags of rice and a bull valued at GH¢5,050 to the Chief Imam and Moslems in Bolgatanga on Friday for the celebration of the Ramadan festival.
He commended the Moslems for co-existing peacefully with Christians and impressed upon them to eschew all forms of misunderstandings that have the tendencies of breeding violence.
“Lets us not behave like the “Boko Haram” sect in Nigeria, which has been attacking people, especially, Christians and killing them without any provocation,” he added.
He also entreated Muslims to always remember the departed in their prayers, particularly the late President Mills, that Allah blesses them with eternal bliss.
He said the late President was undoubtedly a man of peace and a man of God and called on all Ghanaians to strive to embrace the legacies he left behind.
“These are legacies we should strive to embrace and emulate to make our nation strong and great. We shall continue to cherish his great legacies, especially his commitment to bridging the North and South gaps,” he added.
He thanked the people in the Region for the condolences they showed towards the death of President Mills, saying it was a clear testimony of unity among Ghanaians.
Alhaji Yusif Adam commended the President for the donation and said they would continue to pray for peace and development of the nation.
He said he was happy that President Mahama had stepped into the shoes of the late President and expressed optimism that he would accomplish the good works of the late President.
He stressed that the Moslem Community would continue praying for President Mahama and his administration to run the country effectively.
