Mrs Fafa Adinyira, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, has said provision of schools for communities would depend on the pupil population.
She said community with a primary class six enrolment of nine pupils, for example, obviously needed to do enrolment drive to deserve a junior high school.
Mrs Adinyira was speaking at a short ceremony at the E.P Primary School at Matse-Ando to symbolically mark “My- First-Day-in-School” in the Municipal Area.
She urged Parent/Teacher Associations in small communities to undertake active enrolment drives to populate their schools to justify requests for higher levels.
“My- First-Day-in -School,” was instituted to welcome and thereby retain new pupils in the beginning classes.
The theme picked for this year is “Role and Responsibility of Stakeholders in Quality Education Delivery”.
Mr Adinyira said a child’s first day at school was not only significant for the child but also for the state because that child had commenced his or her personal development as a state asset.
Mr Avorfodi Asempa, Deputy Director of Finance and Administration at Municipal Directorate of Education, said education was a right that should not be denied anybody.
He urged teachers and parents to teach and encourage pupils to be meticulous about their personal hygiene.
Togbe Michael Ashigbi, community head, complained about the frequent rainstorms that ripped off the roof of the school building and appealed to the Assembly to consider giving the community a JHS.
Mr Kingsley Kavi, the Headteacher, said the school which currently has an enrolment of 136 pupils was faced with frequent withdrawal of pupils by parents who are mainly farmers and kente weavers.
He said the schools feeding programme seemed to be abating the rampant withdrawals.
A total of 36 pupils made up of 16 girls and 20 boys were registered as first-timers to kindergarten one and Mrs Adinyira gave them souvenirs including biscuits and cups.
