Prison Commander Expresses Concern About Feeding Grant

Space FM,Sunyani - The Second -In- Command at the Sunyani Central Prisons, Chief Superintendent S.S. Zoogah, has expressed concern about the ¢4000 daily feeding grant for prison inmates.

He has therefore appealed to the society to regularly support the government in caring for prison inmates. Superintendent Zoogah was speaking when a leading furniture company in the Brong- Ahafo region, Emmanuel Ottoo Furniture Works, donated food items and a cash of one million cedis to the Sunyani Prisons. The items included five bags of rice, one bag of maize and a bag of sugar.

He said providing three meals a day with ¢ 4000 is very inadequate but quickly added that for now that is what the state can afford -The Second- In- Command noted that the society must seriously look at sharing with government the burden of catering for prison inmates. He also called on pastors and their congregations to always offer prayers for prison inmates since they need prayers for change of hearts and transformation to enable them fit back into the society. The Managing Director of Emmanuel Ottoo Furniture Works, Mr Emmanuel Ottoo, told Space FM that it is the responsibility of well- to- do individuals and organisations to assist the needy in the society. He added that government alone can not care for prisoners in the country and called on philanthropists to assist the country’s prisons. Mr Ottoo said prison inmates should not be neglected because they are being transformed in several ways to enable them once again contribute the development of the nation. The company made similar donation to the Biadan Children’s Home at Berekum where the Father of the Home, Pastor Samuel Acheampong thanked the organisation and others for their assistance. He said the regular donations from individuals and organisations have greatly facilitated managing the Home. He added that it is biblical to assist the needy to glorify God who works through man. The Biadan Children’s Home has 64 inmates made up of 34 girls and 30 boys aged between four years and 23 years.
