Juaso(Ash), April 2, GNA - Authorities of Juaso Senior High School (J.S.H.S) in the Asante Akim South District has since 1998 been seeking answers to the unannounced abandonment of three major projects being undertaken in the school but to no avail.
Despite series of letters written to the Ghana Education Service (GES) and the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports in a bid to have the projects completed, no progress has been made. The projects, which include a headmaster's bungalow, the extension of home science block and staff bungalow, were awarded between 1997 and 1999 to Messer's Axor Limited, Bashmed Enterprise Limited and Messrs Dapo Construction Limited respectively.
Interestingly, none of the contractors at the time of abandoning the projects which are at various levels of construction gave any official reasons for their actions, leaving the authorities of the school in a limbo.
Mr Kenniford Adasi, Headmaster of the School, who briefed the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said the projects when completed would help relieve the school of its accommodation challenges. According to him, the lack of accommodation for tutors on campus was adversely affecting the maintenance of discipline and effective supervision of 'prep'.
He noted that the school had been turned into a boarding school following the introduction of the Computer System of Selection and Placement (CSSP) to accommodate students from far places thereby compounding the problem of the congestion in the school. Mr Adasi said efforts to get the contractors back to the project site had proved futile since the authorities of the school had no hand in awarding the contracts. The Headmaster expressed concern about the investments which had so far been made in the projects, two of which were at lintel levels saying they would go waste if urgent arrangements were not made to complete them.
He appealed to the GES, the sector Minister as well as Philanthropists to assist the school in completing their abandoned projects, now at the mercy of the weather, to help relieve their school of its numerous challenges and promote academic work.
