Ho, Nov. 2, GNA -The quick response of the Ho branch of the Ghana National Fire Service last Friday night saved a number of motor repair shops near the Rehabilitation Training Centre (RTC) from raging fire. Mr. Felix Butame, a motor repair shop owner, however lost two motor bikes, a television set, a DVD player, a radio, generators, tools, spare parts, mobile phones and 1300 Ghana cedis cash.
"I saw the fire tender pass but I did not know it was my workshop that was on fire", he told the Ghana News Agency. Mr. Butame said he closed the workshop at about 1800 hours that fateful day but at about 2300 hours, he received a telephone call informing him that his workshop was on fire. He said the Fire Service personnel were fighting the fire when he got to the workshop but everything had burnt before the fire was brought under control.
Mr. Butame said the fire was detected by members of the Church of Pentecost who were worshiping in the area and called the Fire Service. Asked why he kept that much money in the workshop, he said he planned to buy spare parts the following day. He said he could not guess the cause of the fire and that he was connected his workshop to local electricity supply which he started five years ago.
Mr. Butame who appealed for help to restart the workshop said it was not insured but he would do so after sorting things out. Mr. Michael Katako, Station Officer of the Fire Service, said it took several hours to bring the fire under control and that investigations were underway. 02 Nov. 09
