Protect women and girls from AIDS

Bekwai (Ash), Dec.14, GNA- Mr Eric Anarfi, Amansie East Focal Person on HIV/AIDS has stated that women and girls who are more vulnerable must be protected from contracting HIV/AIDS.

Mr Anarfi was speaking at a debate organised by the Bekwai SDA Secondary School's Virgin Club and the Environmental and Population club also of the school to mark this year's celebration of World AIDS Day. The debate was on the topic "The Most Effective Method to Control the Spread of HIV/AIDS-Condom and Abstinence the Best Methods". Mr Anarfi said women and girls therefore ought to be made aware of the reality of the existence of the disease and asked Non-Governmental Organisation (NGOs) and Community Based Organisation (CBOs) to intensify their education on the disease.

Mrs Leticia Aye-Diabene, Amansie East District Director of Health Services expressed her happiness at the level of awareness of the disease exhibited by the students.

What was left was for the women and girls to change their sexual behaviours so that they did not contract the disease. Mr Daniel K. Obeng, the Amansie East District Director of Education in his closing remarks asked the students to lead decent lives by avoiding casual sex.
