Public cautioned against operating private employment agencies without licence

The Ministry of Employment and Social Welfare has cautioned the public against operating private employment agencies in Ghana without license issued by the Chief Labour Officer.

The Ministry in a statement issued in Accra on Tuesday copied to the Ghana News Agency, reminded the public that such violation was an offence punishable by law.

It called on operators of all agencies, including private security companies who act as intermediaries for the purposes of procuring employment for job seekers or recruit job applicants for employers, to register their organisations at the Labour Department.

The statement said those in the regions should contact the Regional Labour Offices of the Department for assistance or call personally at the Department’s Head Office in Accra, opposite the main gate to the Accra Sports Stadium for certification to avoid prosecution.

It warned that any agency operating without license issued by the Chief Labour Officer and failed to comply with the order by the close of work on Tuesday, July 31, would face sanctions.**
