Accra, July 20, GNA - The introduction of the capitation grant in public basic schools is a threat to the existence of private basic schools, which are also partners in the development of the country, an official of private schools said in Accra on Thursday.
Mr Jehoiada Amuzu, Executive Director of Youth for Christ (YUFRIST), told a meeting with 20 heads of private basic schools that they should do something about this threat now otherwise they would lose a lot of pupils and be out of business.
He said there were many private schools in the country, which have employed many people who would be made redundant.
Mr Kofi Lucas, a Development Consultant, urged proprietors to seek funding from institutions like the World Bank to develop good libraries in the communities where children would easily have access to books instead of relying on libraries in the schools or the few public ones. He said government should ask all Ambassadors of Ghana outside the country to look for institutions that would support and link up with local NGOs that were transparent and ready to partner with government for the development of education.
