Public urged to help Police instead of criticizing the Service

Ho, May 15, GNA - Volta Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) David Nenyi Ampah-Bennin, on at the weekend called on the public to help ameliorate inadequacies that abounded in the Police Service instead of criticizing the Service.

He said the Service was a human institution and as such had its fair=

share of challenges and needed the assistance of the public to bring it u= p to expectation.

Mr Ampah-Bennin made the call at the closing ceremony of a two-week capacity building course for selected personnel of the Service from acros= s the country in Ho. He said the Service would welcome constructive criticisms from the public but also expected it to help find solutions to challenges confront= ing the Service. Mr Ampah-Bennin said community participation in policing was the ord= er of the day and called for a shared responsibility in the fight against crime. He urged personnel of the Service to maintain self discipline and us= e force as a last resort in the field of work. Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Wejong Adofiem, Officer Commanding at the Volta Regional Police Training School, said the social context in which the Police was working in modern times was a complex one=

that called for regular training. He advised participants to reflect professionalism and act according= ly in every given situation.

Colonel Cyril Necku (Rtd), Deputy Volta Regional Minister, urged the=

participants to be good ambassadors of the Police Service and let the knowledge acquired at the course to reflect in their work. Detective Corporal Kofi Bright, Course Prefect for the participants,=

described the Course as motivating and inspiring and prayed that all personnel go through the training to change the face of policing in the country.
