Punishment for registration malpractices not examination malpractices

Accra, April 27, GNA - The University of Cape Coast on Thursday said it disciplined its staff and students for registration malpractices and not rpt not for examination malpractices as it appeared in the "Daily Graphic" of Wednesday April 5, 2005.

It said the offences were committed during the period for registration and not after the registration deadline.

A Ghana News Agency report on the issue on April 4 stated; "four members of staff of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) have been dismissed and 48 students at various levels of study, rusticated for "academic registration malpractices" during the 2005/2006 second semester, by the UCC authorities.

Twenty-two of the students have been rusticated for four semesters, and the remaining 26, for two semesters. The students were alleged to have registered for the second semester after the deadline for registration on January 27, after paying monies ranging between one million cedis and five million cedis to the four members of staff.

The final publication, however, came out that the staff and students were punished for examination malpractices. The mix-up is regretted.
