Pupils adopt arts work to preach peace for election 2016

Master Basit Fuseini, 14 year old pupil of the Central Apostolic School in the Ledzokuku-Krowor Municipality in Accra, has emerged the winner of the Arts and Craft competition tailored towards peaceful Election 2016.

The maiden competition organised by the Municipal Education Directorate, focused on consolidation of peace in the country through Arts and Crafts.

Paintings for the competition had captions suitable to promote peace in the coming elections. Sixteen schools from the municipality took part in the competition.

Some of the paintings by the kids portrayed a group of people holding high the Coat of Arms, other painting shows the national flag and a fist up with the inscription: “Ghana First” and “Strength in Unity”, among others.

Master Fuseini’s award winning Art work, illustrated Ghana as a huge tree falling on its side, but with unity of purpose, all the political party representatives came together to push it up whilst the Electoral Commission was on the other side of the tree with a rope tangled to the tree pulling it.

Master Fuseini supported his art works with the inspirational words: “Let us unit and lift Ghana Up.”

He also illustrated that all democratic stakeholders must work together for a peaceful, transparent, free and fair election.

For his reward, Blue Apple Network Ghana Limited would sponsor him on a trip to the Merlo International Arts Competition, scheduled for December in Israel and a week tour of recreational and memorial sites also in Israel.

Mr Yaw Fosu-Danquah, Municipal Director of Education, said children should be offered the chance to develop their potentials and this; they could do through peace.

He said the competition was to portray the talents of the children to the political parties and how they could also contribute to the nation’s development through their God given potentials.

Mr Fosu-Danquah said an exhibition would be mounted on June 30 at the Municipal Education Directorate where representatives of the various political parties would be invited to view the “wonderful arts of the students”.

The parties would be given an opportunity to pledge their commitment to peace before, during and after the elections.

Mrs Elizabeth Ofosu Adjare, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, asked teachers to encourage the pupils to develop their talent in creativity to develop the nation.

She called the on political parties to let peace prevail in the upcoming elections.

Master Fuseini in an interview with Ghana News Agency, expressed gratitude to Ghana Education Service, the Municipal Education Directorate, teachers for the wonderful opportunity given to contribute to the development of Ghana.
