Sunyani,(B/A) Sept. 13, GNA - Nana Fosu, Mmbrantehene (Youth chief) of Ahenboboano Electoral area in Sunyani, has appealed to teachers to continuously educate children to keep the environment clean to avoid the outbreak of diseases.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday, he said it was a very worrying to always see school children, in particular, indiscriminately littering their communities with sachet from used water and pieces of paper.
"School children are supposed to know better but they are rather doing the opposite," he complained. 93This attitude will not augur well for the development of our nation and the earlier things are done to rectify the situation the better."
He described the situation as unfortunate, saying it could damage the regional capital's touted image as the neatest in the country and that of the electoral area in Sunyani Municipality.
"We need to learn from countries like Singapore where spitting on the ground is prohibited and considered as offensive," he added.
Nana Fosu stressed that adequate sensitization and education of school children on the need to keep a healthy and sound environment for a period of two years would inculcate in them discipline and a deep sense of cleanliness.
He urged the Sunyani Municipal Assembly to provide dust bins at vantage points for residents to offload their rubbish 93to help stem the unhealthy tide".
